There were regulations for the financial market.
There were SEC, CFTC and the likes.
And they had authorities to control bad behaviors in the market.
But they mostly didn't use their power and in some cases couldn't.
The reason is all too famous lobby and its absorbers, Govt. officials and legislators.
Years ago when the head of CFTC then wanted to stop the crazy policies that became 'The Cause' for the current collapse of the market was brutally forced to shut up by Fed Chair, Greenspan, and Treasury's Rubin and Summers with the aid of many corrupted congressmen and senators.
She was punished for her brave action at legislators hearings and called by Fed and Treasury a trader.
She resigned under the pressure and the result subsequently freed derivatives to carry the market to the liars heaven.
So I'm not convinced new regulations could change the bad behaviors of the market.
And the way Obama adm. conducts businesses makes sure that there will be no right or wrong but compromise.
With lobbies and their absorbers intact in this long enduring disgraceful political system, few things can be changed by compromises.
A decisive shift from status quo is flat out impossible when it is most needed.
It is actually a unique characteristic of American politics.
That's why when things like this going on, it all becomes a gust of wind hitting everyone close by; pundits, activists, unions, corps, politicians and all, and then 'gone with the wind' leaving pains and ruins in hearts and minds who are reassured that the paradise is becoming increasingly estranged as time goes by.
It is just so painful to admit that the young president by which we were so inspired was just another complaisant product of American politics.
And things will be back to normal just as usual.
