Expensive Food

White Truffles

More expensive than any other food, let alone any other fungus, the white truffle stands at the top of the expensive-food chain. These gems are so expensive because of their rarity and because truffle hunters rely on luck and pigs to find them. White truffles can cost up to $2,700 per pound.

Mika...this young musician makes me nod

And he is the message for the world in this time.

미 카의 1집에 수록된 10곡 가운데 무려 6곡이 국내 CF(SHOW 공익광고, SK Telecom, 아시아나항공, KB국민은행 등)에서 배경음악으로 쓰였다.

PARTYING LIKE IT’S 1999

Think the U.S. economy has come a long way? Think again.
Wall Street, 1999
Wall Street, 1999
DOUG KANTER / AFP-GETTY IMAGES
As we dig out from the rubble of the fallen financial sector, it’s common to hear analysts fret that the U.S. may face a Japan-style “lost decade.” After its real-estate and stock-bubble burst, Japan struggled with low growth throughout the 1990s. It emerged from the decade shrunken and sapped of confidence, with very little to show for a large amount of government spending and near-zero interest rates.
I’m not particularly concerned that the U.S. is in for a lost decade of its own. Our political and financial leadership reacted much more quickly than Japan’s did, and the U.S. system, for all its faults, processes failure quickly. Besides, we’ve already had a lost decade. When 2010 dawns in several weeks, it will bring down the curtain on the aughts—a period in which a great deal and not much at all happened, economically and financially speaking. In fact, a startling number of contemporary indicators are at or below the levels at which they stood 10 years ago.
Let's start with the single most-important economic number: jobs. Over the past 10 years, job creation has been extraordinarily weak. In September, on a seasonally adjusted basis, there were 108.544 million private (nongovernment) payroll jobs in the U.S.—almost precisely the number there were in June 1999. (To see the data, go here and then check “nonfarm private.”) In the past decade, in other words, the private sector hasn’t created a single job. That’s poor, especially when you consider that the population grew 9 percent during those years, from 282 million in 2000 to 308 million today.
The stock market performed like somebody running on a treadmill—a lot of energy was expended to travel the tiniest of distances. As this depressing 10-year chart of the S&P 500shows, stocks went precisely nowhere in the past decade, despite all the efforts to help the market—from slashing capital gains and dividend taxes to keeping interest rates extremely low to bailouts.
Meanwhile, Americans seem to have lost their interest in investing. Between 1992 and 2000, the percentage of households owning mutual funds doubled, from 24.4 to 49 percent. And between 1992 and 1999, the percentage of Americans owning equities—either through mutual funds or as individual stocks—rose from 36.7 percent to 47.9 percent. To build on that impressive growth, in this decade, President George W. Bush made the “Ownership Society” a theme of his presidency, suggesting that investing in securities could be the solution to everything from Social Security’s long-term insolvency to the health-care crisis. But Americans largely ignored these calls. According to the securities industry’s Equity Ownership in America 2008 report, the proportion of the population that owned stocks or bonds fell from 57 percent in 2001 to 48 percent in 2008. And in 2008, 45 percent of U.S. households owned stocks—inside retirement programs and in brokerage accounts—down from 49 percent in 1998.
Investors may have been turned off by the market’s poor performance. But in this past decade, Americans didn’t have much leftover cash to deploy into the stock market. Incomes were basically stagnant during the decade while the costs of vital goods and services—education, health insurance, energy—spiked. The latest report from the Census Bureau on income, poverty, and health insurance is full of interesting data which shows that median household income in 2008, at $50,303, was below where it was in 1998. The same report shows (see Table B-1 on page 44) that both the number and the percentage of people living below the poverty line rose, from 11.9 percent in 1999 to 13.2 percent in 2009.
Many factors explain the sluggish performance. Globalization, the continuing information-technology revolution, and the offshoring of manufacturing and service jobs kept employment in check. But at root, it turned out that the policies enacted—low interest rates, cutting taxes aggressively, disempowering unions, empowering Wall Street, deregulating the financial system—by the folks running the system just didn’t work as advertised. Meanwhile, policymakers neglected some important areas that can help support financial stability, like health insurance. Since 2000, a period of generally low unemployment, the portion of the population getting insurance directly from the government rose from 24.7 percent to 29 percent, while the portion receiving employment-based coverage fell from 64.2 percent to 58.5 percent. Between 1999 and 2008 (see Table C-1, page 59) of the census report, the population of the U.S. rose 9 percent, but the uninsured population of the U.S. rose 19.5 percent.
There were a few areas of progress. Partisans of the decade’s economic policies liked to hold up the rise in homeownership as a success. Instead of buying stocks, Americans were buying McMansions and condos. And as this census data on homeownership rates shows, the housing and mortgage bubble boosted the homeownership rate, which peaked at about 69 percent in 2006. But while stocks and bonds are bought mostly with cash, homes were purchased mostly with debt. And what leverage giveth—higher homeownership, lots of jobs tied to real estate—leverage taketh away. Once the housing market peaked in the summer of 2006 and foreclosures started to mount, the homeownership rate declined. Today, it stands at 67.6 percent—almost precisely where it was in the fall of 2000.
Michael Jackson is the 1980s-era pop star coming back into vogue. But it would be more just if the artist formerly known as Prince were enjoying a revival. For when it comes to a range of financial and economic metrics, we’re partying like it’s 1999.

What is life and how to fill it up?

My preferred perspectives about life:
1. Instant pleasure vs. long term making
2. You want to be deep, subtle and profound living it up.
3. Need a deep rooted and persistent principle that governs all situations.

I prefer this way I guess because I am better equipped for one than the other.

Below is an interesting article on this subject from Huf.Post:

Life Sucks And It's Society's Fault

Russell Bishop

Russell Bishop

Posted: November 9, 2009 08:05 AM

Over the past few weeks, hundreds of you have commented on this series of articles, some with thanks, some with criticism, and some just plain missing the point.
So let's try being more blunt: if you want a better experience of life, live it!
Notice I did not say, "if you want more things out of life, go get them." I'm talking about thequality of your life experience, and not thequantify of toys you can accumulate. Contrary to the bumper sticker, the person who dies with the most toys does not necessarily win - unless, of course, you may be talking about winning the booby prize.
So many people seem to still be stuck on the measuring stick of the material--how much do you make, how much do you have in the bank, what kind of house do you have, what kinds of electronics do you own, where do you go on vacation, and all manner of physical world things.
Even more amazing to me is how many keep trying to blame some euphemistic society for their ills, and, in particular, the American society for having instilled in them the focus on things vs. quality of experience.
Measure Your Quality of Life by Quality of Experience, not by Quantity of Possessions
If you happen to have succumbed to the "Madison" avenue, TV version of success, then sure, you can blame the advertisements, the TV shows and the greedy bankers if you want. It still comes down to who drank the Kool-Aid, not who made the Kool-Aid.
So come on now: how about some modicum of reality here: Are you responsible for your choices or not? If not, you can stop reading this article and any others that follow. This work is not for you if you are looking for someone to blame. This work is for you if you are willing to acknowledge that you are the one making the choices, and that if life experience is going to improve, it will come down to choices you make today, tomorrow and the next day.
Here's an example of the societal conundrum (and please, I'm not trying to jump on anyone here, least of all the author of this email. This person had the courage to write and my experience suggests that being willing to talk about the issue is the first major step forward):
I just read your (article) and I agree with what you said. But my question to you is, how can you truly live the life you want to live when our society doesn't support it? What I mean is that if it were not for the need of money, and so much of it, in order to live decently would not their be more dreams being fulfilled without having to worry about being able to pay your bills? I am 41yrs old and every day I am constantly in my head trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, all the while knowing that what I want to do, which is to be able to experience all the things of interest to me for however long and still get paid a decent salary in which to live a modest life, all the while not feeling like some sort of failure because I didn't live up to societies brainwashing of what success is or responsibility for that matter. I just want to be free to LIVE life and not have to end up on the street in order to do that. So again tell me how can I make my dream come true? - KJ
KJ's note is great! KJ has provided a foundation upon which we can begin to make some of this clear. Let's dissect the note, line by line:
"How can you truly live the life you want to live when our society doesn't support it?"Society? Which society? Who is this society and how did it come to have the power to decide what you can choose for your own life. Assuming we aren't talking about a life of mayhem, robbery and murder, you can pretty much find hundreds, if not thousands or millions of different approaches to life, each of them chosen by the person following the lifestyle. My suggestion: start by figuring out what you would like to support in your own life. From there, you just might begin to discover choices you can make that will move you toward what you truly want.
"What I mean is that if it were not for the need of money, and so much of it, in order to live decently would not their be more dreams being fulfilled without having to worry about being able to pay your bills?" What does "decently" mean? I know of people with no bills who still worry, and those with huge bills who also worry. Vice versa as well. For some, good enough never is. Of course, the underlying premise here is the main culprit. KJ has accepted the notion that a decent life is one that can be bought. My suggestion: focus on the quality of experience, not the quantity of possessions.
"I am constantly in my head trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, all the while knowing that what I want to do, which is to be able to experience all the things of interest to me for however long and still get paid a decent salary in which to live a modest life, all the while not feeling like some sort of failure because I didn't live up to societies brainwashing of what success is or responsibility for that matter." Probably the most obvious challenge here is with the phrase, "experience all the things of interest to me." Not only does KJ want to pursue things in life, KJ seems to blame "society" for his or her brainwashing. As I have written many times before, it all starts with awareness. In this case, KJ is aware that s/he has bought into something that doesn't work, and yet persists in trying to pursue it. My suggestion: start with your own awareness and begin to redefine your idea (ideals) of what a decent life could be. Remember, you can never get enough of what you don't really want.
"I just want to be free to LIVE life and not have to end up on the street in order to do that."Again, KJ seems to have confused living with having. My suggestion: work on gaining clarity about what living means to you, how you would experience living, and what would be true if you were actually doing that. From there, you can begin to make choices that will help you make progress toward your true aspirations.

"So again tell me how can I make my dream come true?" This one depends on what your dream might be. If it is a dream focused on possessing things, then perhaps that kind of dream is, for you, a nightmare. As before, what do you want out of life, really? My suggestion:stop complaining and start choosing.

One of our readers sent me an email with perhaps the simplest summation of all:
A group of us were playing the "if only" game - you know, if only I had a job, if only I had more money, etc. And the moderator of the group asked all of us "What are you going to do about it?" It dawned on me that I had a problem and it helped me to take control of my circumstances.
As we mentioned last week, sometimes it is enough to simply recognize what is present, determine what you might like to experience differently, and then get off your "buts" and do something about it. In my work over the years, I have often said that thought is not required, only action. That's a bit too simplistic in some ways, and yet there is great truth in this little aphorism. We'll explore this one in a future post.
Please do share your thoughts, comments and suggestions, either via the comments section below, or by emailing me directly.

Better way to exercise to reduce body fat.

The article was posted on NYTimes Health Blog.
It is enlightening in a way especially if your purpose is to rid the body fat.
One important take away point is that less intense exercise is better to burn accumulated body fat.
Like walking at an elevated phase that enable your heart rate optimul to burn fat at around 134.
Here are some of the interesting findings;
If you work out at an easy intensity, you will burn a higher percentage of fat calories” than if you work out a higher intensity, Carey says, so you should draw down some of the padding you’ve accumulated on the hips or elsewhere — if you don’t replace all of the calories afterward. To help those hoping to reduce their body fat, he published formulas in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research last month that detailed the heart rates at which a person could maximize fat burning. “Heart rates of between 105 and 134” beats per minute, Carey said, represent the fat-burning zone. “It’s probably best to work out near the top of that zone,” he says, “so that you burn more calories over all” than at the extremely leisurely lower end.

There are some insightful findings of the research in this article and here is the link.

Why Obama is conjoined twin of TBTF?

I don't believe he was born that way since I know his life that's been told to the public.
But my guess is he somehow after he took the top job agreed to join hip with TBTFs.

I'm sure he knew it was a poisoned glass of wine that will turn him into a monster.
But he had no choice but take it.
Why?

Here is my guess.
I think he decided to let evils prosper in this country because those evils represent economic power of this country.
I don't know exactly how much portion it occupies in America's GDP but I'm pretty sure it is huge.
So if you clean these thieves from the economy, which is right thing to do, America's GDP bubble will collapse.
America once known to the world as the biggest and the strongest economy was just made up numbers which have been fabricated by the thieves and supported by many administrations and legislators.

If we clean this up, the bloated status of U.S.A will shrink all of a sudden.
And it sure looks like a scary thing to happen in his watch.

So even under an enormous pressure from his own people, he sides with thieves and kicks the can down the road just to avoid the inevitable.

But after all this is only my guess, hunch, hypothesis, conspiracy theory or whatever you call it.

Where have all the proud Americans gone?

Recently, we witness this phenomena.
It's increasingly hard to find once granted proud American status.
After decades of living blinded by their own governments and Corporations, people started to actually view themselves objectively.
And the reality they are finding is absolutely painful.

Wall Street has been rewarded for better and more sophisticated thieves.
Healthcare has become major killer for most American by burdening them with ultimate stress.
Infrastructures for public use everywhere are pitifully outdated while handful of individuals who get rich off the misfortunes of ordinary people have every imaginable luxuries they could possibly have.
Two wars?

And still Washington thinks things are too complicated to solve and only alternative is a compromise between haves and have nots while it lives daily under the influence of the haves.
They know too little to solve any problem and thus things get complicated always.
Major bills usually go over thousand pages.
And it can only mean people must not know what the hell is being written it the bills.
When Canadian healthcare reform bill was made, the whole bill was 14 pages long.
But actually it was 7 pages long since bill was written by two languages, English and French.
Compare that to our healthcare reform bill.
How can we ever compete with other nations with all these attached strings pulling from all directions.

We are doomed unless we do something about this.
In the meanwhile, proud Americans will be even more scarce to find.

110309: Obama, why don't you get your MOJO back!!!

His Campaign was all about change, breaking the status quo, revamping D.C. politics and all this to reflect the voices of middle class American people who broke their piggy banks to support this young hope.
Does he ever think why he was chosen at the enormous expense of Hillery Clinton?
We chose Obama instead of all too powerful and all too smart Hillery because we believed that he had less strings attached to drive the reform.

And from the very beginning of his young presidency, this camouflaged president started to shock us with his selections of people to surround himself.
Although there were some new faces here and there, status quo was not dead but more strengthened at the core.

Then president closed down the channels with us and became the advocate for those who surrounded him.
Then he started to send mixed signals, unclear goals, watering down and to put another way all too familiar Washington politics all over again.

He betrayed our trust.

If Jordan said he would beat the knicks in the first four games of a 7 game playoff series, what rational person would be angry if he is down by two within the first five minutes of game 1. No matter how great Jordan was, it would've been impossible for him to win a 48 minute basketball game in 6 minutes. The idiotic progressives that voted for Obama thinking that he could fix problems that were compounded for decades in 10 months means that they never understand the legislative process and are as ignorant as the half-minded conservatives they scorn. Grow a pair and read a book, the man said throughout his campaign that getting this country back on the right path is like steering an ocean liner, it will take some time. And these so called progressives ceaselessly criticizing this administration, are not putting the presidents feet to the fire, based on comments rampant on this site, they are doing nothing but defecting votes to the other side. Please understand BILL and AH, the president is smarter than you. Politics is a game of chess, not connect four, if you think you can do better in 10months, then by all means run in 2012 if not be honest about the legislative process and stop trying to score points with your base, because no matter how much you criticize him it will always fall on deff ears where they belong.
